Birthday venue ideas

Hi knowledgeable forum types :)

I'm thinking ahead (and procrastinating, at this point in time) about my birthday in October and what might prove to be a decent venue. I'm not sure how many people I'd be talking about yet, maybe up to about 20 but it could be a joint thing so may easily double that.

I'm not into clubbing or anything - I'm just after a casual sort of thing with a few drinks (preferably some cocktails!) and the option of food if people want, so a pub seems ideal, but obviously I want to make sure everyone has a place to sit, so wondering about pubs that might be able to section off an area or similar? In terms of area - anywhere from Broomhill down into town.

Anyone have any suggestions? Is 20ish enough to look at getting a side room reserved? Does it cost much, if anything? My idea so far has been The Place in Broomhill. I'm not sure I'd be able to book a proper meal out somewhere, people tend to be pretty flakey as to whether they can make such a thing..
