I admit I was wrong about the tories

Recommended Posts

I voted Lib-Dem (much point there was me voting at all as the seat is very safe Labour) but hoped for this coalition, but thanks for your sympathy anyway.

I did not mind the idea of a coalition. I thought the lib dems might keep the tories in line and vise versa.

But it has just proven that my original view of nick clegg (before i supported the lib dems)... was true.

Tony Blair = Lying ****

David Cameron = Tony Blair clone

Nick Clegg = David Cameron clone

They are all the same, they look and sound the same, they say the same things and!!!! they all come from the same privlidged background.

This 'negative income tax' idea sounds like it might work - only read a little about it though. Basically all the benefits are rolled in to one with tax credits, and the amount you get from the state gradually reduces as you earn more, so there is always an incentive to work, rather than getting stuck being better off on benefits.

It should work the other way too. If someone on £18k loses their job it is likely their outgoings will be much less than someone on £50k - chances are the latter will have a bigger mortgage, more expensive car etc. The latter will have paid more tax, so I don't see a problem with the latter starting off on more benefits, with both getting reductions over time. This happens in some countries - bascially you get 90% of your salary for three months, and it gradually reduces until after 2 years or so you are down to a basic amount. That is a proper safety net, which is what benefits are supposed to be.

Yes that does not sound like a bad idea. Making the benefits system simpler will save money, but it seems at the same time they want to punish people too. You can bet that say a single man with no kids, no job etc.. will be worse off under this new scheme. And he hardly gets enough to survive now anyway!

Blair and Cameron have similar presentation skills, which is a function of this media age. Their policies are different. It's the latter that should matter, and the former that do.

No the policies sound different. The end result is the same.

Why has it not struck any politician yet that the government should take the publics money, make public transport public again, make the utility companies public again... then invest what ever they can in science, manufacturing and higher education.

.

And you voted Tory ............ oh dear.

To be fair Labour had 13 years in which the only thing they nationalised was a few banks that were about to bring the world economy to a standstill.

What makes you think it would have been different if they got back in?

I didn’t say it would be different its just that I found it amusing a Tory voter would advocate Nationalisation, if I had posted that I would have been shot down and accused of being a stalwart socialist.

He's not a Tory....
