Toby Foster and Harrow Halal meat

Recommended Posts

Go back to the country you belong. I'm sick of Muslims expressing what they want in England. They shouldn't even have a choice! It should be our way or no way. What is England coming to?

You might need to take a lilo though :)

LOL, no doubt you'll be persecuting the disabled next for expressing what they want.

You must be struggling reading the game ricgem? ;)

It's the people who are trying to justify a ban on halal meat (in schools) due to animal welfare considerations who've scored an own goal.

It doesn't alter the fact, however, that halal & kosher restrictions are a load of gibbering nonsense. Introducing gibbering nonsense into schools shouldn't be high on anyone's agenda.

If children have special dietary requirements, I would advise a packed lunch, or the veggie option if it's about the meat.

It's only fair and equitable to have meat in schools prepared in accordance with all religions, or no religions. The former is plainly impossible. So I feel the latter is a sensible option. It's not like the children will starve.

If you're interested there's a lot of information on the Halal Food Authority website, the key issue for them appears to be the fact that the animal is alive when slaughtered, there's no prohibition on stunning it first.

Is it just me - or is that total [gibbering] nonsense?

Please don't confuse my posts here with any support for gibbering nonsense, it's just that if the gibbering nonsense has no material effect on the quality of my meal, then I've no real interest in whether it's been gibbered over or not-my main concern isn't defending halal, but questioning why people object-your view I'm more drawn to.

Regards your first point, I don't necessarily see the introduction of halal meat into schools as endorsing that particular lifestyle, in practise no one will be any the wiser unless Muslims started to demand halal dinners had a piped escort to the table.

As others have pointed out here, most of us have been eating halal meat for decades without really being aware of it.

No I respect disabled people greatly. It isn't their choice to be disabled. Where as it is the Muslims choice to live in our Country.

That 5m we gave to them should have been spent on disabled people and cancer patients over here to have a better life.

I am sure we could have just sent them some arm bands over, much less costly.

Sorry, I'm not really sure what you're unclear on.

EDIT: I think I see what you mean. What Muslims fear is that with many methods of incapacitation, there's a risk the animal is killed inadvertently-that isn't the intention with any method of stunning, but you can imagine with the cartridge bolt to the brain the chance is probably quite high.

So Halal slaughterhouses use methods that are safe and don't induce death in a healthy animal, it's then slaughtered the normal way by being hung and having it's jugular and carotid arteries severed.

I think there are plenty of people who, had they known that, would have objected at the time, mainly because eating meat that's been religiously blessed is simply weird. In the same way that many muslims would object if meat thought to be halal turned out not to be. The meat is the same in both cases, but unacceptable. Shouldn't we equally respect people's right to not eat religiously tainted meat, even if it's because they believe a lot of gibbering nonsense?

Perhaps it's worth simply economising and labelling it halal wherever it comes from - because as you point out, no-one will be any the wiser.

But what happens if or when pork is removed from the menu?

It's everybody's choice if they choose to live in this country, you're welcome to depart whenever you want to.

English Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Buddhists, atheists etc have as much right to live here as you or I do.

That 5m we gave to them should have been spent on disabled people and cancer patients over here to have a better life.

What does that have to do with school dinners?

I'd rather have sent you over in a gimp suit and an offensive message pinned to your back ;)

Rather than dead when slaughtered?

An animal killed accidentally by stunning still goes through the slaughter ritual of being hung and having it's throat cut in order to drain the blood, but it's not as effective as when it's done on a live specimen.
