From September 8th a $14 fee will be charged when applying for ESTA ( Electronic System for Travel Authorization ) best thing is getting esta approval does not guarantee entry into the United States. It only grants approval to travel to the USA, you can still get sent back home once your at immigration.

As it says in the link anyone even thinking of travelling to the U.S in the next couple of years should apply for ESTA before September 8th as approval will last for 2 years. https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov

I'm with dawny on this one. What happened to the 'special' relationship? Do Canadians have to pay this charge?

We should start charging every US citizen on entry. £10 each.

We still have that and its the sameas its always been.

We bend over and america gives it us up the arris!

Every country which has the "visa waiver" scheme to enter the US, will have this charge applied. That may not apply to Canada; I'm not sure how the Canada/US border is policed. It certainly applies to at least twenty other countries besides us; we are not being picked on.

If anybody really cares enough to want to look at a list of all countries affected, it's here.

Citizens of Canada, Mexico and Bermuda have other policies in place to allow entry to the USA without a visa; currently, ESTA will not apply to those three countries. There are 36 countries to which it does apply; everybody else in the world has to get a visa to travel to the States, which costs considerably more than $14.
