DT Ralge Posted August 17, 2010 Share Posted August 17, 2010 If a speed camera was meant to stop you exceeding the speed limit wouldn't it make sense to be zero tolerant. Otherwise knowing what human nature is,some people will try to do 55 past a 50 camera, as that is apparently acceptable. I'd never thought about it, but in a way it is encouraging incomptent driving - i do know of a camera near a school that allegedly activates @ less than the guidleine speeds though. The tolerance varies from county to county (North Wales Constabulary are infamous for their intolerance) and varies from static (machine with pre-set trigger points) to mobile camera (operated by flesh and blood who can use their discretion). That's one of my bugbears with the whole system: there has been and continues to be no real consistency across the country which, in itself, undermines the confidence any driver can have in the fairness of the system. DT Ralge Posted August 17, 2010 Share Posted August 17, 2010 Not obeying the speed limit would mean you would fail your driving test. You'd think so but that's not exactly true. The examiner will have a look, make a mental note and then look again expecting to see that the excess speed has been trimmed. If not, a case for a fail is inevitable.
