Teknofobe
If you give someone a purse or a wallet you are supposed to put a coin in it (it used to be an old sixpence) so that the purse/wallet will never be empty.
artisan
Can you just run that by us again? With the words in some sort of coherent order this time? Thanks! I do the salt over the shoulder and most of the others, like touching wood, as well. Without even thinking about it usually. What I mean mean Ruby is that some new members do not seem up to the mark. Teknofobe
An odd time, very odd time, I still hesitate before stepping on the cracks (footpath) There used to be a rhyme to accompany this. If you step on a line you'll marry a swine. If you step on a crack you'll ride the devils back.
johncocker
I once got in terrible trouble with a petty officer on a navy frigate for showing a young sailor how to tie an hangmans noose ...nearly as bad as killing an albatross

I never walk on cracks, especially in glass coffee tables.
Lady Star
In China they have no 4th anything - floor, gate, etc as 'four' sounds like 'death' in Mandarin... Loads of cultures are supersitious - It's just old fears, nothing to get too upset over..
discodown
I think the Friday 13th business dates back to very early times, well pre christian. It was used by the Christians when they wrote the life of Jesus. Thirteen at the table at the last supper, Friday when he was crucified. The thirteenth apostle being the betrayer etc. They were using an earlier folklaw to impress upon the people the importance of their message to them. One of our resident witches may be able to shed some light upon it, perhaps? how can it? they didn't have months in the same way. it is actually supposed to be a reference to the orders given to arrest the knights templer which were given and acted on friday the 13th
