SHYTOT
Yes, but my point is that we already know about the Pakistan floods, which happened two weeks ago. . You quite obviously didn't if you thought it was an earthquake.
Worjackie
You seem to have access to the Internet, you can pick and choose which news you read, listen or watch on many sites. The TV news will always tell us about things that are of interest/relevance to the most people. It works both ways though. Anyone who really wanted to know what was happening in Iraq or Pakistan has lots of specialist news websites where they can find out as much as they like. But the BBC is funded by us, so it really should be focussing on the news that is relevant to this country.
watchcoll
if someone had actually died in the uk train crash then it would have probably been top of the news progs. but no one did so it got shunted down the order. strange then that 1 person getting killed in a localised event in england would have been more news worthy than 2000 people getting killed in a nationwide disaster in pakistan? not really read up on galtung and ruges news values on wikipedia if you want a simple explaination of why events appear in the news and in what order of priority. (NB: there is no such thing as 'news', there are only events that occur around the world, and it is the people of the media that decide whether they wish to broadcast these events to the wider public, and call it 'the news')
