Harrod
Precisely. Ten years of grinding depression in order to get even close to restoring the balance. Fifteen years of austerity after the War, because we were so heavily in debt that we couldn't afford to spend anything on anything. Such is, indeed, the nature of Britain being skint. Why would any sane person want to have to go through it again? The post war years were good. There was no unemployment , the standard of living rose and there was great hope. Unions came into their own and RIGHTLY demanded better wages and conditions for its members. The NHS was born.
Greybeard
Beans on Toast Britain here we come. Better get stocked up on beans then. The govt. seem to have already opted for the inflation solution. Hmm - there's an awful pun buried there Anyway I agree with the others.....yawn

Harrod
Yawn indeed. It isn't whether or not cuts are needed that is the issue, it's where those cuts are targeted. At the moment it seems to schools, children, old people, the poor....the usual people Tories like to hurt. Aww...never mind! You may get yourself targeted soon! taxman
Yep.The deficit has given 'em just the excuses they want to justify their planned attacks on the public sector, which they so despise. What is so dismaying is that people seem to have bought their lies and spin. You expect Tories to target certain groups of people but now we have the LibDems hanging on their coat-tails whilst the public applaud from the sidelines, desperately glad that they aren't the one being dragged off for a bullet in the back of the head. Yes, I know no-one is actually being culled yet but I wouldn't put it past this lot.

Well at least Gordon has left Fred Goodwin with bags of cash (for doing a pee poor job) in his pension pot....so it's not all bad news really is it? To be honest how do you know it wasn't you that bought Labour's spin? Creating as much state employment through a socialist aspect whilst the debts have racked.....didn't that happen with Hitler's Nazi's? And how did they pay for it.... by invading other countries to rob & pillage their assets.....now tell me again why are we in Iraq & Afganistan? Perhaps..... http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3013604/700bn-minerals-in-Afghanistan.html

The cuts will affect us all. The bitter and twisted working class Tories on here will be laughing on the other side of their faces when their benefits are cut!
