Which you will now have to pay for since the working class favourites (i.e Labour) introduced University fees.

Conservative prime minister John Major commissions the Dearing inquiry to make recommendations on how the funding of higher education in Britain should develop over the next 20 years.

 

July 23 1997

The Dearing report is published. It recommends that students should pay approximately 25% of the cost of tuition but that grants should remain in place.

 

July 1997

Following the report, education secretary David Blunkett announces the introduction of means-tested tuition fees (to begin in September 1998).

they could and should have stopped it.

 

what they also should have done was re-establish the polytechnic sector

 

abandoned the stupid idea that everyone goes to university, which was only done to manipulate the youth unemployment figures since they made no attempt to stimulate the development of industries that needed anyone, not just graduates

 

and fulfilled wilson's promise from the 60's on comprehensive education that every school should be a grammar school

 

but then again new labour were more tory than the present tory party so they did what everyone here expects of the tory party.
