HeadingNorth
When spending is higher than income, you're overspending. That's just as true of education as it is of anything else.

wednesday1
Why bother to educate children when you don't have any jobs for them and cuts all the schemes aimed at getting them job? And refuse loans to vital engineering companies so that they can win orders in new markets and provide hundreds of jobs.
Mutts Nutts
Well in Sheffield anyway, start with getting rid of the ASSets team and making the headteachers take a pay cut to compensate the tax payer for the employment of Deputy heads and ASSistant heads who now do parts of the role of the Headteacher.....simples.... muddycoffee
Just wait until the Autumn when the MPs and press get back to work and all the supposéd "government ring fenced" areas that have had massive cuts become the headline news.
JFKvsNixon
Spending £20bn on Trident isoverspending! The more money in education the better! The Trident money is budgeted over the lifetime of the upgrade, with nothing to spend for 5 years. How will cutting this save money this year? Vague_Boy
Just one question really. How can ANY government claim to be over spending on education?!?! I could hire 500 winos at £1 million a day and set them teaching in our schools and if anyone objected I could say "How can anyone think that it's possible to overspend on education?!?!" The many and varied problems with the current UK education system require more than merely firing up the printing presses. Any fool can throw money at a problem, in fact, one did (step forward James Gordon Brown).
