hard2miss
Is there a difference between the effect of smoking cigarattes and smoking heroin. Some people will try heroin if its legalised for sure, who is to say those people would not try it anyhow, its available just about anywhere, some wont like it and be put off by it. The difference is some people do it to be different and rebel or because of peer pressure or because 'its cool' ect, but if its out in the open then the stigma goes and sure some will try it but not on the scale that is all out of proportion as the scare mongers would have everyone believe. If the drugs are purified then there will be less health issues, less deaths and more money in the coffers to pay for treatment that the tax payer alone has to stand to at the moment. The only winner with the status quo is the importers and dealers. When it was last legal here there was far less users and a problem than it is now. The battle against drugs is long lost barring the white flag, its only people that live with rose coloured specs or are idealists think other wise. Bassman62
What admin costs do cigarettes cost now? Taxes cover it Bassman. What is the admin cost now to the police trying to win this losing battle, and the cost of incarcerating people who take drugs? It shouldn't cost a penny to keep criminals in jail, hard labour to pay for their keep should be the order of the day, how many police officers will go if drugs are legalised the answer is none because they will be free to combat other crimes If a person is on a £15,000 heroin habit (and pay for it themselves), then has to steal nearly £50,000 worth of stuff to pay for that. How much does it cost to grow an opium poppy? 20p for a hit The addict chooses to rob to feed their habit, programmes are already their to help them kick it. I'm sick ofpeople on here making excuses for druggies even to the point of claiming that it is the normal thing to do. There are five graduation photos on my living room wall, none of my children have taken illegal drugs especialy not at unversity where some posters on her imply that it was the normal thing to do, (if you can believe these posters). People choose to be on the habit, what I'm asking is how can they get on the habit if and when these drugs are legalised.

Bassman62
Yes, people don't generally have to rob people to buy cigarettes. So why if as you imply the only difference is that you can buy one over the counter and the other requires robbery because it is so expensive yet has the same effect don't they stick to cigarettes? Bassman62
Just use your noggin. The drug dealers are happy to keep supplying them. Entrepreneurs are happy to sell. Drug users are happy to sell. The NHS could do so, or a government agency acting on their behalf. Surely with all these sellers Drug dealers. Entrepreneurs (that's a new one). Drug users. logic says that the price should come down with all this competition to supply.
