pattricia
Im not sure but think the man who was trapped was a student at Sheffield University, and his father was a doctor. Many of the Mountain Rescue Team were deeply affected, and one had to give it up.

hillsbro
A doctor couldn't have got down to him but, as usual on such occasions, there were some misleading press reports. A detailed account is here. "Sucide Hole" is near the bottom of Winnats Pass

Suicide Cavern has two entrances. A small one, about 3ft high, is to the left of the main entrance. They are clearly visible in the movie 'The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue', although the church is superimposed onto the scene. There is good footage of all around Castleton & the Church Scenes were shot in Hathersage.
