The rain is a natural event, it only became a natural disaster when the people cut all the trees down so there was nothing to absorb the rain (amongst other things). IMHO he is misguided in being a vegetarian and is so obsessed with "animal rights" (like Hitler) that he uses intemperate language and doesn't see a problem with it.
