It's usually around 3 and 1/2 times your salary but some places will go higher and you'll find some that won't lend even that much. So based on 3 and a half times your salary you'd need to earn around £14k. Have a look around the mortgage websites and see what ratio they lend at. Guest Posted September 6, 2010 Share Posted September 6, 2010 Also depends what your credit rating is, what other commitments you have, the number of years you want to take it out over and if you have any dependants ie kids or non working spouse. Best thing to do is simply call a mortgage lender and ask them to do an agreement in principle based on your circumstances. Usually takes 15 mins on phone.
