mj.scuba
Like Islamic ones ? Not just Islamic societies: ....despite its identification by journalists as a largely Muslim practice, Christian and Hindu communities have stooped to the same crimes. Indeed, the "honour" (or ird) of families, communities and tribes transcends religion and human mercy.

artisan
RACIST! Calm down pally, in this country at least, every one has their say.
Suffragette1
Well in this country the suspects are put on trial and punished if convicted as with every other sort of crime. If you read the whole article, the judicial systems in some of the countries completely fail these women, or in some cases it is the local judicial system itself that sentances the women to death. That is probably why it provokes more debate. As I mentioned earlier, because of several long high profile campaigns with specific cases, there has been a gradual shift in sentencing patterns vis a vis men and women who kill a partner. 20 years ago, men were literally getting away with murder (many receiving suspended sentences for manslaughter on the grounds of provocation), whereas women were receiving the mandatory life sentence for murder after killing an abusive partner in a way which does not fit with the full legal defence of self defence.
