Is it actually legal to burn wood in a chiminea locally?

Recommended Posts

Is it actually legal to burn wood in a chiminea locally? It may seem a daft question with the number of them on sale in garden centres etc, but we live in a smokeless zone and the things do give out a lot of smoke.

I presume it would be legal to burn coke or charcoal, but everyone I know used any old bits of wood that comes along. Are we all breaking the law? Is this just something that the authorities simply turn a blind eye to pretty much like bonfire night?

The Clean Air Act, in relation to Smoke Free Areas deals with the emission of dark smoke from chimneys attached to houses or furnaces.

You will not break any smokeless zone regulations by burning wood in a chiminea that is free standing outdoors.

You could always fall foul of the 'nuisance' laws if you tried hard enough!

It's OK anyhow. I don't burn wood I usually just burn the old tyres off my go-kart as they won't take them at the tip.
