The Pope's Visit

What do you mean by "made up"? In the same sense all states are made up, with lines drawn on a map marking out the territory?

No, in a different sense than that. You are right, in a way, all states are made up.

I'm saying some are more made up than others, and Vatican City is one of them.

Which are both drastically different to Vatican City.

Whilst they may have the same legal status, they are clearly not the same thing. Thank you for proving my point so eloquently.

They do have something in common, the fact that they are sovereign city states. You know just denying it is a sovereign city state doesn't make it true.

Lol. Some are more made up than others? Like the Peoples Republic of Sheffield, that was made up wasn't it.

But he's not a real head of state, he's a religious leader of a country that doesn't really exist, it's just so that he can get special treatment.
Vatican City isn't a country. Its a City State or possibly a principality. It is represented at the UN signs treaties with other countries and participates generally in world politics but its not a country in the sense of anywhere else, as you rightly say the population is incredibly small, not even the size of a decent village.

However its political and economic status is that of a City State or principality

This may help you a bit:

Vatican City State was founded following the signing of the Lateran Pacts between the Holy See and Italy on February 11th 1929. These were ratified on June 7th 1929. Its nature as a sovereign State distinct from the Holy See is universally recognized under international law.

and this about the Lateran Treaty:

That doesn't alter its status though

I'm not saying anything about it's legal status. I'm talking about what it actually is, y'know, like on a deep level.

It's not a country, or a state. It's an organisation. The only people living there are employees of the catholic church.

People become citizens while they work there and when their appointment stops they are no longer citizens. That is unlike every other state in the world.

It's basically a business premises.

You're not wrong. However its legal status is what counts. Its possibly the richest real estate in the whole world. Has one of the biggest libraries, the most porn, the most scientific papers, some of the finest art in the world and one of the worlds oldest armies - and - I may be wrong has an official population of 1
