Engravers in Sheffield during mid1800s

Hi

 

I heave ancestors from Sheffield who were engravers by trade between 1830-1865.

 

I would like to know what the social standing of an etcher/engraver was in Sheffield of that period. What sort of income they may. What sort of education they may be able to afford for their children.

 

Any information would be invaluable in trying to "set the scene" for a book I am endeavouring to write on the history of my family.
