Waste at the Post Office.

Recommended Posts

Last year I when I sent parcels through the Post Office the staff would print sticky white labels with the postage price onto each package. The labels came 2 to a sheet and were pretty drab but they did the job just fine.

This year some bright spark has come up with the idea of replacing the white labels with gold coloured ones in the shape of a large postage stamp and bearing the Queen's head. Obviously these labels cost far more to produce than the previous ones and offer no advantage other than appearance.

But there is another downside to this. Before when posting items the staff would ask for the unused label to be returned so it could be used. Now it is thrown away. It appears that the remaining half of the new label cannot now be used as the perforations stick in the printing machine. Staff have been instructed to only use one label from each sheet and throw away the remaining unused label.

Waste and stupidity. Two areas where cost savings can be made at the Post Office.
