I forgot to add that it is worth going to the BBA and BSA website to try to trace dormant accounts that may have existed.

 

The forms take about 10 minutes to fill in and are distributed to every UK bank and building society, who will check for overlooked accounts. It is free.

tried to reply to your thread but SF crashed.

 

I used to be Crown and Bank Debt recovery agent. They are wrong, you need to go to a solicitor that specialises in Debt.

 

The Bank are very low down on the pecking order over this debt. Any loans or HSBC cards should be covered under their insurance. They are trying to lengthen the process so that after 18 months the money will come to them!!

 

Please go to a Debt councillor and solicitor now and get what is rightfully your mum's money.
