A.B.Yaffle
According to experts in 2013 we will get a massive solar flare that will could see power grids crash, communication systems collapse, planes grounded, food supplies hit and the internet shut down. Everything from home freezers to car sat navs would be affected. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3145874/Solar-flare-to-paralyse-Earth-in-2013.html Does this mean people will have to learn how to speak to each face to face? And people may have to do boring things like football and walks etc instead of sitting in front of a computer game? How absolutely fantastical! Vague_Boy
It doesn't matter. The world is going to end on dec 21st 2012 anyway, so we won't be here to see it ;-) Definitely December 21st? Well, that'll save on the Xmas shopping that year. Such a phenomenon occurs only once about every 100 years. The last big flare, in 1859, smothered two thirds of the Earth's skies in a blood-red aurora. Such scenes could occur again, causing cloud storms in major modern cities such as London, Paris and New York. Well solar flares do happen and I guess it's only a matter of time before a biggie erupts, whether it's in 3 years time or 30. And with our dependence on modern electronic gizmos, hoo boy! Still, maybe it'll wipe out all computer records, so our collective debt will vanish into the ether, Project Mayhem style.

artisan
You wait thousands of years for an earth shattering disaster, and then two come along in the space of 12 months. Typical! Is that John Cleese I hear there? :hihi: Come back Fawlty Towers.

Solar flares, pah. Just wait untill the magnetic field reverses again. That will sort the gizmos out properly.
