dannybreeze
Theatre at Dempseys, in association with Theatre in Reaction, presents 'Especially the Latter Part: The Life and Death of Kenneth Halliwell'. In 1967, Kenneth Halliwell murdered his lover, the playwright Joe Orton, in a frenzied hammer attack; he then took his own life with a fatal overdose of sleeping pills. It was the culmination of a 16 year relationship that had seen Joe Orton transformed from a provincial nobody into one of the most feted writers of his era - and Halliwell, once the dominant personality in Orton's life, to a marginalised figure, alternately overlooked and despised by Orton's new celebrity friends. This play is written and performed by actor Richard Ely in a powerful one-man portrayal of Halliwell. The production comes to Dempseys after a showing in Colchester. This is the latest showing in the Autumn season at the city's newest home for fringe theatre. Dempseys Bar and Club, 1 Hereford Street, Sheffield, S1 4PR. Wednesday Sept 29th - Saturday Oct 2nd 2010. Start time 7.30pm. Tickets £7.00/Concessions £5.00. Pay on Door.
