When "old' people were young, most did not have ,central heating! double glazing ! cars! telephones! TVs! fridges! washing machines!foreign travel! computers! supermarkets!.............and endless other luxuries that people take for granted today.Lots were displaced by two world wars! lots worked till they were 65 and retired with nothing but a cheap gold watch!...................but anyway,do carry on talking out of your backside trying your best to wind us all up!

In that case they did not need much money did they!:loopy:

I started work in the 70's on 20 quid a week, I don’t know who you have been listening to but someone is pulling your plonker.

exactly, and if an 80 year old set up a pension back then he was lucky ,about that time i think we were in a very bad depression just after the war

ISA interest rates rose to 12% in the Snatcher era. Only old people had them.

ISAs weren't introduced until 1999 during the Labour administration so, like most of your blathering, you've got that one wrong too.

Without brickies labourers you wouldn't have any houses.

Hod carriers worked very hard to earn their money, no job security and when they got too old to do the job had to get anything they could.

Think before slagging others off.

You mean like this bloke: Max Quarterman?

So because we want more luxuries these days ,we have to have more money to pay for them?.........................where is the money coming from? we certainly know where public sector wages and pensions come from.what about the rest!

And wages have risen even more, or don't you take that into account?

Young people today could easily save plenty if they didn't pay out for all those luxuries they don't need.

Do you have any statistics on that as I would like to know just how many families are living rough.

Thanks for that link. It does give the correct perspective.

The comparison is only for the past 10 years. It needs to go back further to the 1960's otherwise its just recent statistics. It doesn't say anything about how many families are living rough in Sheffield either.

WOW....and just what are the repayments on a brand new £14,000 semi at 15%? They could pay it out of their huge pensions!

None of them could afford to pay their mortgages as they were all on strike... after getting drawn in by the rhetoric of the marxists at the time. However, don't think Scargill and his ilk ever lost a nights sleep in worrying about how theirs was going to get paid.

Like the saying goes there's no fool like an old fool!
