chem1st
The amount of pensioners is increasing rapidly as the boomer generation retires. People are living longer, retiring earlier and are less likely to have saved for a pension. This means we spend more on pensions and have to increase taxation of the young to pay for these pensions. People haven't had enough children and the working population is shrinking, and at the same time unemployment increases for those of working age. Whilst the young are having their pensionable age raised to 70. Today's pensioners are guaranteed an increase in the state pension equal to CPI, RPI or 2.5% (whichever is greater), meaning the already increasing bill will definitely increase even further. Yet we are living in a time of cuts and unemployment will increase (putting even more strain on the state welfare system). How can we afford to increase the pension? We can't, yet it is being increased by the powers that be to win the pensioners vote, a bribe if you like to the largest cohort of voters.

They do not care what happens to young people so long as they get their pound of flesh! They are sooo....selfish!
