Digsy
http://twitter.com/alqaeda We can keep tabs on them now. Didn't make Vanity Fair's Top 100 - time to do something attention-getting. Maybe I'll blow up Zuckerberg. http://bit.ly/bUywDM - Alqaeda (on twitter)" Arrest this man too pls, waste more money, woohoo let's blow all our taxes on prosecuting faccebook/twitter users. Come on I wanna see a conviction (goes to get pitchfork).
chem1st
Do you honestly believe, that the Taliban is going to start using twitter if this Mr Chambers had not been found guilty? Do you honestly believe that old Al Kideeedar is going to start using Twitter or facebook to plot the next 9/11. You'd imagine somebody would be more likely to broadcast it (a threat or admission) on a public/private forum like SF, youtube or facebook. You could easily implement systems to monitor the people statistically likely to commit terrorism too.

muddywolf
I think the more worrying thing about the story is that this guy had 600 people 'following him' on Twitter. I never used it but he didnt look like the type of person who I would like to read his daily goings on.

milquetoast1
Well unbelievably he lost his appeal. So now it's official, we cannot make jokes about terrorism. I feel quite ill at the blatant injustice to be honest. It now seems we are living out the film Brazil for real, where a piece of judicial overkill sees the might of the state pitted against a harmless, unthreatening individual for no good reason. evildrneil
What an utterly stupid and pointless outcome. The tweet was obviously a frustrated joke - a bomb threat against an airport that is currently closed come on!? Oh and to any twitter users it's currently trending (see the #IAmSpartacus hashtag) I wonder if they are all going to be arrested too!?
milquetoast1
Can't believe the lack of interest in this story, which has far more important implications than some incompetent wannabe jihadists burning a poppy. In the end Paul Chambers was prosecuted for his twitter 'joke' under a law that was created in 1930. Our legal system needs to catch up and join the rest of us in the 21st century. When we do this kind of thing, mistake an obvious 'joke' for a real threat, we do exactly what the terrorists want, we destroy our culture and turn our machinery of justice against ourselves. The terrorists' actions are nothing compared to our own, the state has in effect become a threat to us.

COYOTE 12-11-10 A LEADING circuit judge has today issued an arrest warrant for hungry cartoon predator Wile E Coyote. Mr Coyote often communicates using brief messages. Jacqueline Davies said there was now clear evidence that Mr Coyote intended to commit murder and should be arrested and held on remand until a trial date can be set. Judge Davies said: "Mr Coyote's recent purchase of a giant crossbow is clear indication of menace."
