Because this will reported around the world, and reflects badly on the PM, and by extention, the percieved standards of our rulers, and therefore the people of this country. The baby won't be harmed in any way, so I don't really get what you mean by it being "treat in that manner". Oh, and I suspect the people of the world care even less than I do.
