LETRA SET – Friday 15th October

with DEEP TEKNOLOGI (Local Action) // JAM CITY (Night Slugs) // WINSTON HAZEL (Kabal/Warp) // JERA b2b JANGLE (Tropical, Leeds/Radio Frequency) // MONTRAVE (Wee Bit Mean) // DANNY BECK (Bigger Than Barry) // SAFESTYLE (Squire of Gothos) // BAKA BAKA // JULIUN c90 // DJ SPUDDHA (c90) // PATRICK H (Rough Disko)

One-off party, two floors, 13 DJs – bringing together the most exciting producers in the UK and some of the most gifted DJs in Sheffield and Leeds for one massive throwdown. Expect UK funky, house, tropical, garage, deep rollers and dubstep hybrids. Here's the flex:

Upstairs:

DEEP TEKNOLOGI (T WILLIAMS & S.E.F. - Local Action)

"astounding ...the Deep Teknologi crew have nowhere to go but up; we’ll be lucky if they let us ride their smooth, perfect percussion on the ascent with them"—One Thirty BPM, record of the month

"Deep Teknologi's sound is modern and hard but steeped in house tradition, riding a line between the past and the future that does it for us every time."—FACT Magazine

“a simple organ figure pivoting above tightly locked percussion and bass, but brimming with such an excess of energy.... one of the best dancefloor tunes I’ve heard in a long time” – Sonic Router

“Three songs that have already received seals of approval from the likes of scene giants Kode9, Sinden, L-Vis 1990, Bok Bok, Brackles, and others too numerous to list. Count us in as members of the Local Action fan club."—XLR8R

JAM CITY (Night Slugs)

“We’re not sure there’s any producer or DJ in the UK right now who is so skilfully balancing dancefloor ruffage and emotional delicacy...Jam City has a blindingly bright future ahead of him” – FACT Magazine

“skull-shatteringly, heart-burstingly irrepressible” - NME

“...elements of Numan and the Human League, the sleek techno and jacked-up house of Detroit and Chicago, the machine grace of the Germans, and the idiosyncratic experiments of Warp when it was in Sheffield. Sometimes you hear Jam City and you think of a London of the near future; other times it has the polyrhythmic range of a sort of world music electronica. Maybe it's a peculiarly lovely strain of post-grime house...(Jam City) is special.” - The Guardian

“(JC remix of Endgames' 'Ecstasy') may well be the best Night Slugs have yet put out there” – Sonic Router

WINSTON HAZEL (Kabal/Warp)

Put simply, one of the finest and most influential DJs in Sheffield electronic music, from Forgemasters' 'Track with No Name' (the debut Warp release) via legendary parties like Jive Turkey and basement sessions across the city, to the present day; playing the standout set of Warp 20 and currently part of the strongest resident DJ line-up in the UK with the incredible Kabal parties (alongside Pipes, Toddla et al).

MONTRAVE (Wee Bit Mean)

Part of the WBM crew, DJing alongside the likes of Martyn, Darkstar, Hyetal, James Blake and Untold, Montrave smashed it at the penultimate Rough Disko and is rightfully regarded as one of the city's best selectors.

JULIUN c90

As well as putting on line-ups that were years ahead of every other promoter with c90 (e.g. DJ Rupture, The Heatwave, Maga Bo, Jahdaan Blakkamore), Juliun has expertly lit up dancefloors for such as the Tuesday Club and at the Warp 20 VIP area at Magna.

Downstairs:

JERA b2b JANGLE (Tropical, Leeds/Radio Frequency)

Resident DJs and promoters of the most forward-thinking night in Leeds (Tropical), Jera and Jangle have, alongside Sheffield/LSS's Mella Dee, been responsible for bringing the likes of Mosca, Oneman, Scratcha DVA, Ramadanman, Roska, Marcus Nasty and Ben UFO to Yorks. With regular slots on Radio Frequency, and with Jera's own productions being rinsed by Cosmin TRG, Dub Boy, Doc Daneeka, Hackman, Shortstuff, Scratcha DVA and DJ MA1, they're at the forefront of the UK garage, funky, tribal and dubstep scene.

DANNY BECK (Bigger Than Barry)

Bigger Than Barry resident Danny has been bringing the bass to parties UK-wide, gaining a reputation as the one of the most technically gifted DJs in Sheffield, with an innate sense of dancefloor dynamics.

SAFESTYLE (Squire of Gothos)

One half of Squire of Gothos (whose We Do Scorpion Things album is set to drop in Oct on Rag N Bone), as well as Djing/promoting the fiercest underground parties across the city and presiding over ad-hoc Ustream sessions. Deep in the game.

BAKA BAKA

Combining his own instrumental, futuristic hiphop/electronica with deep/minimal and broken beats, Baka Baka is fast developing a reputation in Sheffield and beyond.

DJ SPUDDHA (c90/Never Too Much)

Part of the c90/Never Too Much crews, DJ Spuddha draws from a multi-genre, encyclopedic knowledge of electronic music to expertly blend styles and drop the finest 12”s - right tune, right time, every time.

PATRICK H (Rough Disko/Letra Set)

Fresh from burying Rough Disko after 6 years of Steel City parties, and kicking off proceedings with some low-BPM South African house/tropical heat.

At SAWA (to the left of the o2 Academy on Arundel Gate, Sheffield)

£3 b4 12am/£4 after, free entry downstairs before 12am
