jazzamatazz Posted September 30, 2010 Share Posted September 30, 2010 Independent folk-roots quartet Emily Barker & The Red Clay Halo kicked 2010 off in style by hitting the No.1 spot on both the iTunes Singer/songwriter charts and Amazon’s MP3 Folk albums chart. The reason for the peak in interest was due to their releasing a single ‘Nostalgia' through their own label Everyone Sang. ‘Nostalgia' was chosen for the theme tune to BBC1’s highly acclaimed drama series ‘Wallander’ http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00pxtct starring Kenneth Branagh. The song emanates from the band’s second studio album ‘Despite the Snow’ and has not only won a Bafta but also a Royal Television Society award for best original theme. Not bad for a musician who has never owned a television set! In February, the band travelled to Australia to perform at Perth International Arts Festival plus a string of tour dates including a homecoming show in Emily’s birthplace Bridgetown, where the local hall became the venue for a sold out show promoted by her own family, who also sold homemade cakes & local beer!
