Private mammogram in Sheffield

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure how it works if you are with a private health care scheme, but my family have used the thorbury alot and I know if you are wanting a consultation you can book without a referal, i would imagine they have access to your medical records the same way any hospital can:)

I think that you can book directly if you're already under their care but I think that for an initial consultation you still need a GP's referral, if for no other reason, to ensure that you're seen by the appropriate specialist? The OP should phone the GP's first thing and find out how to go about it.

Thanks for the help. It sounds like we need to see the GP in the morning & get referred.

What usually happens is that the GP will write a note which then entitles you to contact the private practitioner and make an appointment. As you've already been seen by the GP, ask the receptionist to ask the GP to write one as well as give you a named contact and ring directly.

Good luck with everything.

two weeks not bad waiting time,i found a lump saw gp next day he rang hospital the appointment was 5 week & the lump had gone deeper, so two week not bad. its very quick once your at the hospital. the mammogram at the hospital is a lot deeper than at the clinic with a lot more magnification, then you see a doctor who will have seen the plates. I was lucky thank goodness but still had the lump cut out a couple of months later under a local cant even see the scar. I kept having a peek of him doing it, and he stuck the lump under my nose to show me it was all out in one piece.

The GP referral is just so that your insurers are satisfied that the consultation is justified, as they will be paying for it. If you are paying yourself you can contact whichever specialism you require at one of the independent hospitals and book yourself in for a consultation without a GP referral. If at the consultation the consultant identifies that his/her specialism isn't appropriate to your needs s/he will advise you of this, but you'll still, obviously, have to pay for the consultation. The consultant will share relevant information with your GP so that it sits on your central records.

To the OP, you can call either The Claremont or BMI Thornbury in Sheffield and make an appointment directly for a mammogram.
