Morts
I've just been reading an obituary about Trevor Taylor who originally hailed from Sheffield and passed away last week. Trevor was one of the early pioneers of F1 Grand Prix and raced in 29 GP's between 1959 and 1966. He was accredited with having the yellow stripes painted on the front of the all green Lotus F1 cars. I'm sure there are other motor sport fans out there who remember him and the cars he raced.
Jazzman
Regarding Trevor Taylor, without going into my motoring books to tell more, he was a works team driver with Lotus. He was there at the same time as Jim Clark.

mike-s
Thanks for that mpt. I would be really interested to know where on white lane, there were very few properties on there in 1936.
mptaylor
Yes I am his grandson from his first family (he re-married) - I don't know where on White Lane, sorry, it's just what I was told growing up.
Morts
Hi mptaylor-welcome to the Sheffield Forum! You must be very proud of your granddad's achievements. I was reading that Ace Garage were his early sponsors-where was that, was it a family garage?
mptaylor
Ace Garage was run by his father in Bramley, Rotherham (Hellaby to be exact). It later became Freeway Cars but continued to be run by the Taylor family. Unfortunately I rarely saw him. I gather he was quite a celebrity in sixties Rotherham!
