sarasen92
http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/Shame-of-39forgotten39-city-war.6387821.jp saw this a while ago, thought it was awful. as the regiment was disbanded i thought it was down to lack of money. then came across this end of last week. http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/TA-donation-will-help-community.6560317.jp the very fund to provide the cash was available the whole time. seems the sun has gone down for way to long on this soldiers grave. sarasen92
so LT George Lambert VC will have paid into this fund. also being the adjudant of the 84th will have helped set it up. yet the trustees ignore the state of his grave for decades. while all the time sitting on over 100k ????? staggering! maybe its because he came from the ranks? odd job
Its a shame this fund didnt actually help any of the old YORKS AND LANCS lads My dad was in The York and Lancaster Regiment and never got anything from any charity or the army apart from numourous cancers possibley from being in the desert sun all day long, gut problems from having to drink water from army veihcals like tanks and transporters and other health problems . My dad started his army career in the SUEZ CRISIS and did 15 years in the York and Lancaster Regiment or so. IT TOOK THE ARMY 53 YEARS TO AWARD THE CANAL SERVICE MEDAL and he got it 1 month before he died ! ALOT of my dads old friends had simalar health troubles and simalar **** all help from anyone! a handfull Died before receiving there medals ! As for "Pauline Grice, chief executive of SYCF, said: "The Hallamshires have a proud history in South Yorkshire and we are honoured that we have been entrusted with continuing their good work." WHAT ABOUT HELPING THE SOLIDEIRS THAT ARE STILL ALIVE ?

sarasen92
my point is a fund existed, and the trustees ignored this issue and have now given the money away to a non military charity, WHY? also this VC winner will have paid into this fund possibly even help set it up. Agent Orange
a decent graveyard thats still looked after. But would they? I see graves from WWII in my local cemetery and they aren't looked after. Unfortunately, if there are no living relatives then the authorities do not bother.
