denlin
I'm not, i'm being serious. The sooner I don't have to put up this ridiculous farce of Beatles idolatry the better You can't be serious the Beatles shaped the pop music of every generation since the 1960's, Oasis used them as their role models. I was 12 when they came into prominence and believe me there was no-one to match them. How many groups of today will still have cult following 48 YEARSdown the line:huh:
poppins
Personally I don't give a toss that it would have been his birthday today. The sooner Paul and Ringo join him the better it'll be How about if they took eggyoke Ono with them too

Suffragette1
"I've always needed a drug to survive. " John Lennon. http://taz4158.tripod.com/johnint.html John had a well documented heroin addiction? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4489772.stm http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-461071/John-Yoko-saved-heroin-addiction-greedy-drug-dealer.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lives_of_John_Lennon John wrote and cowrote some brilliant songs. For that he should be praised. He was in other aspects a sod at times. He was violent towards Cynthia. He had an unhappy childhood. He's a very interesting character but in not really apart from his songwriting someone to be admired. He certainly wasn't a saint and shouldn't be made into one. I celebrated his birthday with a double bill of nowhere boy and backbeat. I read a biography of him recently, I'm sure that he had to go into rehab to overcome his addiction. I agree with your analysis, he was pretty vile in his younger years and treated Cynthia, Julian and some of his friends abominably. He was a highly complex character and had many demons but seemed to achieve some kind of inner equilibrium in his latter years and was quite a doting father with Sean. It is typical of the adolescent mindset that prevails on here. The Beatles were giants, all others, no matter how proficient, were pygmies

Beatles fans will never admit they made a crap record which they undoubtedly did. Octopus' Garden is a terrible record, its like a crap B-Side and if it were any other band it would get the utter derision it deserves but because its them its somehow magically genius. Also given the fact that have the world is bullied into liking them and they've sold - and continue to sell - millions of records they can't reasonably be called a cult. I also wouldn't cite the fact Oasis used them as role models to be a defining factor in their genius

Octopus' Garden is a terrible record, its like a crap B-Side I'll admit they made some dross, but don't knock Ringo's finest effort. Ob-la-di ob-la-da makes me feel ashamed for them, and I love The White Album.
