r8mnw
I have noticed while down Hillsborough, that Hillsborough Road. The Road with The Pet Shop on,is still Cobbled. Why is this? Surly you would have thought over the years it would have been tarmac, which would be ashame. Does anyone out there have the answer.
medusa
There are lots of roads around here which are still cobbled and I can understand why they have been left. Roads which started out cobbled and which were then covered with tarmac are far worse for getting potholes and the tarmac surface breaking up in patches, creating a worse driving surface than that from the cobbles themselves. I think that cobbled surfaces in good condition (and not on major roads) are just left until something happens which means that the cobbles have to be dug up, then they repair and cover with tarmac afterwards.
