Alcoblog
Just been for a walk in Millhouses park with OH and we went off the beaten track a bit along a footpath that went nowhere. Among the trees was a small granite memorial (500mm x 250mm) set into the ground. It said 'In memory of all children affected by tissue and organ retention', with R/O as the heading. It mystified both of us and wondered if anyone knew anything about it? .... I've googled and wickipediad (?) it, with no results.
cgksheff
Could it have been RP? A memorial to Ryan Parry who was swept away in the floods. Probably not, as there is a more substantial memorial elsewhere: http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/Sun-comes-out-on-Ryan.4291787.jp
Tatman
Could it have been RP? A memorial to Ryan Parry who was swept away in the floods. So what would Ryans death in a flood have to do with organ and tissue retention?

His memorial is close to the childrens playground on the main path. This memorial is where you'd hardly expect someone to see it, along a hardly used path in some scrub by the railway line. Even if you were looking for it , it may go unnoticed
Nagel
I did a search on Google and found this which has to be related to the plaque you found. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/south_yorkshire/2945481.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/2705515.stm

The R/O at the top of the plaque is most probably the logo for the 'Retained Organs Society' which is mentioned. Why would the memorial be placed in such a strange position, no one would know about it? At the bottom it also says 'Please ...no flowers'
Nagel
It might be worth posting in the Sheffield History section of the forum as there's a helpful and knowledgeable people there who might have the answers.
WallBuilder
Quite an odd thing to come across and I noticed it maybe a couple of years ago [possibly less] I had meant to ask one of the peeps who is one of the friends of Millhouses park and so now you've reminded me I'll have to get a move on. BananaSplit
Wasn't there an outcry a good few years ago about these children? I'm certain Jessops was involved as I know a woman whose stillborn daughter was one of the children who was buried 'incomplete'.
WallBuilder
Some-one from the 'friends of Millhouses park' has answered my query and they weren't aware of the stone and don't know who put it there or why. So if anyone can cast some light on the subject, feel free to do so as I'm curious.
