Treatment
I thought he seemed to be a bit young to have Glandular Fever; it used to be called The Kissing Disease as many teenagers got it. Hope he gets well soon.
Plain Talker
If it's streptococcal, a decent course of antibiotics should deal with it. (which is what they seem to be doing, anyway! )
BananaSplit
Just got back from the hospital and they have now said that it's not GF but a streptococcal infection I don't know whether to be pleased or not, if they have caught it in time then his recovery should be much quicker but Strep can have much greater consequences than GF if not caught early. Already his skin is starting to blister and fall off and they are giving him large doses of antibiotics, just keeping everything crossed for the next couple of days. That sounds really similar to what my son had when he was 16. He too was admitted into hospital for 8 days. He was diagnosed with GF, and later with streptococcal something because of an appalling blister type rash on his body....(can't remember the exact name) It was basically a form of blood poisoning that is very similar to meningitis. He was treated via a drip and was discharged after 8 days. He's fully recovered now and hopefully your little fellas illness was spotted in time too.
