Us poor blokes will be worn out before we hit 50 nevermind 66. What the stupid politicians have failed to realise is that not everyone is sat at a desk all their working lives. What about the heavy manual jobs that people have to do? There would be a good reason to introduce this policy. Female life expectancy at birth is 4.4 years higher than for men, at age 65 it is 2.6 years higher. This leads to increased costs for looking after women in their retirement. The French are still where we were forty years ago; they face imminent bankrupcty without radical changes, but they refuse to change. Quite likely, they'll end up where we did in the early 80s, after we HAD gone bankrupt and "refusal to change" became irrelevant. Also, quite likely, as it did here, it'll hurt ten times more for having put it off so long than it would have done if they'd dealt with it sensibly to begin with.
