Eater Sundae
If you can see the moon, now, please look down to the right, at about 45 degrees. Can you tell me what the "star" is that you can see. Its the only star-like thing visible in that part of the sky.

HeadingNorth
Just checking with "Pocket Universe" it seems that Uranus is almost directly behind Jupiter at the moment. You need good eyesight and clear skies to spot it, as well as knowing exactly where to look. I'll have another shot tonight, since I've never been able to pick it out... HeadingNorth
Its there most nights, I notice it a lot, never knew it was Jupiter. thanks x When Venus is bright, it appears shortly before dawn in the east, or shortly after dusk in the west; always just ahead of, or just behind, the Sun. (Sometimes it's almost adjacent to the Sun, in which case it's never visible.) The reason for this is that, being nearer to the Sun than we are, it can never appear "behind" us. It's the brightest thing in the skies (Sun and Moon excepted, for the purposes of this information.) The second brightest thing in the skies, when it's at its best as it is currently, is Jupiter. Since Jupiter is further from the Sun than we are, it is brightest when it is "behind" us and its entire hemisphere that is facing us, reflects sunlight. That's what is happening now, and has been for a month or so, and will continue for a while yet. The third brightest is Mars, to which the same comments apply as Jupiter, but Mars is also a vivid red. (The planet is rusty!)
