So who are the biggest losers from today’s spending announcement

JFHC. I am not a socialist. I have been to university and have done the things people are supposed to do to get on in life, but unfortunately for me, I am nowhere near the top of the tree. Why is that?

There's a saying that, "Life is what you make it." Well, it's a crock and an overworked cliche that people use without thinking about what it actually means. The fact is, "Life is what OTHER PEOPLE let you make it."

Why do you assume that, having been to University, you should be near the top of tree

There's another saying that, "You makes your choices, you lives your life" ;)

Rich politicians braying and cheering hundreds of thousands of job losses....we expect it of Tories, they've always used high unemployment as a political tool, but now we see the Libdems slapping each other on the back as people's lives are ruined. They didn't even pretend to be concerned.

Not that any of them will feel any impact whatsoever, never mind, it's nice to know we are all in it together.

I'm guessing you'd rather not make these cuts and instead bankrupt the country?

I agree and you make your own luck also.

Blaming others all the time for your situation gets you no where as does wasting time complaining about things that you have no control over.

Life is too short for that. Dont waste it.

Sorry this was directed at Meckys comments, not yours.

Utter crap.

Going to university entitles you to.... nothing.

Is it really unfortunate? Or have you just rejected jobs because they are beneath you, given that you have a degree?

As a matter of interest what subject did you study for your degree.

I think many people have had their expectations raised as to what to expect as a degree holder. Nowadays they are quite common. Years ago only a few people held degrees but that did not mean non holders of degrees were less intelligent just not educated to degree level.

I still don't see the relevance to the thread.

But for the record I have close family who work in the Public Service, I have friends and family who are Benefit claimants and I don't want to go back to the crime levels I experienced in the early 90's.

No wealth producers then?

How do you get some of the (not so rich) to change their behaviour?

I saw a few interviews on TV tonight. Some of those interviewed were people who genuinely wanted to work and did work - notwithstanding that the high cost of childcare and the low pay meant the real value of their take-home pay was probably very low.

Then there was another couple with two school-aged children. He said he couldn't work because he had a car accident over a year ago and he had a bad back. He wasn't bedridden and he'd managed to make it into the studio under his own steam, but he couldn't possibly do any kind of work. - Got this bad back, you see?

His partner was asked whether she would like to work. Oh, of course she'd like to work. There was nothing she would like more than to have a job ... but her partner has this bad back, you see, so she has to stay at home to look after him and the children (who should've been at school, but presumably had to stay home because their dad had this bad back.)

It's amazing how many people are affected by one bad back.

It's obligatory if you work in the public sector!
