Whats happening with Motability, can they take my car?

Recommended Posts

Hi people,

I just been to my mates and he was talking about the new budget (exciting I now). Well he asked if I'd heard about Motability and when I said no he told me that apparently they are cutting the Motability part from DLA.

Ive googled and varous sites say different things so does anyone actually know whats happening?

I got my car like 3month ago and I'm worried that they will come and just take it back

You may find you will be invited to be re-assessed for your eligibilty for DLA sometime in the future.

Some genuinely disabled people, without an obvious physical impairment, will find that they fail the medical, and that will mean the cessation of the benefit for them.

Further, the chancellor has announced how much he expects to save by virtue of these; a sum that does not correspond to the DWP's estimate of fraudulent claims. This suggests that the criteria for claiming DLA are, clandestinely, going to be tightened, leaving many disabled people without the support that they need. In this case, those who find their DLA taken away will be those without obvious physical impairments.

But the issue that really sticks in my throat is that I will have to "prove" my disability to satisfy George Osborne, having already gone through the complicated process of claiming DLA taking in evidence from various specialist consultants. This goes beyond a personal nuisance that interferes with my life. The disabled are already marginalised by society – on the one hand forced to verify their disability, but also having to show their ability to work. The medical assessment just adds one further hurdle.

Most disabled people will feel angry when these few protest their empathy and charitable tendencies, and their willingness to pay "genuinely" disabled people a lot more. The DLA's introduction in 1992 was a move away from the marginalisation of disabled people to a world where disabled people were just ordinary people with some additional needs. As a citizen of this country, and a taxpayer, I have the right to DLA because I am disabled – it has nothing to do with charity. I, for one, am not interested in charity, or being vulnerable and in need of benevolent guardians. I am interested in protecting my rights, and the rights of my fellow DLA claimants. I want to get on with my life, and DLA helps me

As you long as you continute the get the higher-rate mobility award you're okay. (The argument seems to be that if you're in a care home, you don't need to be mobile.)

They could probably save more money just by abolishing all DLA payments to the over 65s.

DLA is only payable to the over 65's if the initial claim was made before their 65th birthday. Otherwise entitlement is lost in favour of Attendance Allowance.

Converting the benefit from DLA to AA may well throw a few more pennies back into the pot, were the entitlement for DLA to be withdrawn on attaining the age of 65.

Disability is not always inability. Lots of people less able than others, are perfectly well able to work - and do. DLA is paid irrespective of a persons ability or inability to work.

The last place I worked at had many and several disabled employees - are you suggesting all disabled people don't work? I don't see your point there.

I don't know, but this has been abused like everything else and should be

sorted out ASAP.
