Pete David & The Payroll Union + Men Diamler + Mat Wale, 10th November, 8pm @The Grapes

Join us for one last hurrah at The Grapes, as we say a fond farewell to this wonderful Sheffield institution. Inbetween the tears, you'll be hearing from this lot...

Pete David & The Payroll Union

"The 4 men in The Payroll Union are all suited and bearded and, while playing their acoustic murder ballads, could be seen as a bunch of Southern, God-fearin', gun-totin' brothers (who brought along their little sister for the ride). The... songs are peppered with exhortations to the Lord, whisky, hanging, heartbreak and evil deeds. Pete's vocal delivery veers from hushed whispers to impassioned sermons and, similarly, the music changes on a dime from reverential faithfolk to uptempo secular hoedown and back again."

Men Diamler

Travelling up from the West Country badlands, Men Diamler brings his blues moans, urban field hollers and evangelical existential angst back to Sheffield once more. As though raised by Blind Willie Johnson and Scott Walker in a backwoods shack and sent forth upon his age of maturity with the mission of saving us from boredom, you may well find yourself lured into his magical but crazed imaginarium. If you ain't caught him on his few visits up here previously, I implore to grasp this opportunity with both your grubby little paws. Mad, Bad, Sad, glad and bloody good fun.

All this wondrous music for a mere £4 and if you happen to pick up one of flyers around town and bring it along, we'll knock a quid off. Super.
