Foreign Aid to cost each of us £2500 over 4 years

Recommended Posts

A man with a nice suit and a nice car and a nice house and bailiffs knocking on the door for the £500K he owes the banks and credit card companies is not a "rich" man.

That's us. We have a massive national credit card bill. So to me it seems utterly crazy to borrow even more money to give away to other countries (till recently including the chinese who we are borrowing the money from).

Getting into further debt to give money away is madness, especially when slashing services at home.

I agree with that logic.

Don't make the mistake though that bassman is making and make your arguments about race because the argument about aid in this climate should be about what we can afford, and if we are still going to give it because obviously the needy will still be needy even if we are struggling, the least we could do is to make sure it goes to the right people for the right things and do more to stop it getting high jacked.

Its our money even to the point of it going into the bellies of the hungry and we would save more people if we started cutting out the places rife with the cancer of corruption.

I don't know how we could do it and still save life's but we need to have a better policy regarding aid than we have now where its easily syphoned off.

My argument was not about race, my only reference was to the chinese, who we were until the new government came in giving "aid" to with money we borrowed from them in the first place! Thank you New Labour.

Im not saying it was :), I was merely pointing out that it all gets a bit blurry for some and it ends up boiling down to that.

At the moment people here will soon be on the breadline and although its not the same as starving to death we have to ask how much responsibility can we burden and justify while we are struggling and cutting back.

Well we can't afford our OAP's pensions they keep telling along with many other benefits they're planning to cut.

Charity begins at home (Unless you're a high profile attention seeking do-gooder).

Isn't the state pension due to be increased?

Show me where I have based my argument on race, otherwhise I will report your post.

I've used Africa as the classic example of a continent where £Trillions of aid money has been been given with very little to show for it.

So prove or retract, show where in this topic I've been racist.

And other things withdrawn and the overall pension/benefits taxed above a certain limit.

I get taxed on my company pension which is a bit of a contradiction as I'm now paying out of my preparations for a better retirement for those who made no so plans/preparations.

Your argument cetainly wasn't about race neither was mine but there is a certain clique on here who constantly play the race card or the Islamphobia card at every opportunity.

I used to throw money in charity tins here there and everywhere. But since the government increased overseas aid,i don't bother now.I don't get a say in as to which charities the government donates my taxes to.Especially when the overseas developement agency spend it on plush offices, bonuses and whatever else.
