Foreign Aid to cost each of us £2500 over 4 years

Recommended Posts

No we're not.

Current government debt interest payments are £42 billion pa (that is too much - we can't go on increasing it and we need to reduce it). Government spending is £690 billion pa.

How many here spend less than 10% of their income / benefits on mortgage / rent / credit card bills?

So why have massive cuts been made in the UK?

Foreign aid from the UK is vital to millions of people

The critics would have us believe international aid is squandered on propping up corrupt regimes – don't listen to them.

In the end it's a moral choice. What kind of people do we want to be? Do we, as a rich country, want to spend a tiny proportion of our wealth on saving and improving lives in poor countries? There are enough good news stories about aid successes out there to prove that we can, if we want to, and the coalition's answer to that question this week was a definite yes.

What a load of twaddle, show us any African state that has anything substantial to show for all the money we've poured into it that explains and actualy shows where all the money/aid was used.

If we're as rich as you naively claim why are cuts being made to to allownces/benefits of the vulnerable and needy.

If we'd kept spending at the current rate the debt level would have carried on increasing and have got totally out of control a few years down the line.

That is the point of my OP, we're broke, cutting bennefits to our own needy/vulnerable, so why are we giving foreign aid most of which is misapproppriated
