Firparnian
Firth Park Bowl is under new ownership from tomorrow and wondered if anyone on here has any stories about the old place. I have been playing there reularly for 25 years so am only a newcomer. Would be nice to hear from some others.
peter bush
I believe the centre opened in 1962/3. I started as junior that year. The first centre in Sheffield was at Intake, followed by Firth Park, then Queens Rd in 1965. I have now returned to bowling in the senior league following a lay off. The centre has always prioretised league bowling and looked after its lanes which is the main reason for its longstanding endurance. May it continue under new ownership for another 40 years. After all the ski village has only 8 lanes! Firth park has also proudly boasted the most consistent great bowler in Britain for many years since the 60,s - Ron Oldfield. Still a legend at nearly 70.
