Africanqueen
I am getting two or more phonecalls every day where the number is not registered and when we pick up there is no one there. Now I know the sensible thing to do would be to ignore these calls but a member of my family is in africa and when they call no number is registered so I can't not answer as it might be them. Does anyone know if BT can do anything to help - tried to ring them last weekend but was waiting ages to speak to someone (after I'd got through their press 1 for... press 2 for... system) Anyone got any bright ideas on how to deal with this? truman
It's probably a call centre using an auto dialler....try registering with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) and a lot of these "sales" type calls should stop...
Africanqueen
Thanks for your suggestion but I have registered with the TPS many many moons ago. I even tried to reregister in case it had expired or something but was informed I am registered so no joy there!
Hayley1
You can register with the Telephone Preference Service, which will hopefully go someway to minimising it. Obviously you can't ask to have your line set up to reject incoming calls that have their number witheld, but that would be another thing. After that, contact Ofcom. They seem to be keen to try and sort this problem.

onetwothree
Agree with above but dont register through BT as they may charge you for it. Type TPS into Google and register on line for free, it takes 28 days to take affect and if you tell any cold caller you are on it they will leave you be as the company can get hefty fines for calling TPS registered numbers. It wont stop international numbers though.
onetwothree
I was too late as well, sorry. You could try giving offcom a call though?

Africanqueen
Thanks Hayley & onetwothree I have just sent my details to OFCOM - apparently they don't investigate individual cases but if there is a pattern of complaints they will look into it so If anyone else out there with BT is being harrassed like us please let them know.
