Why Should Britain be in the EU

Recommended Posts

Annual Costs of EU Membership

The net cost of the EU to Britain is £20 billion pa. But the actual cost is much more than that.

The European Union costs us £65 billion gross every year.

That's about £1,000 each every year for every man, woman and child in the UK. And it increases every year

At these costs what do we actually get out of it?

Are these net (after subtracting EU subsidies to Britain) or gross (without subtracting EU subsidies to Britain) figures?

And that's a 3-in-1 difference ratio: what's your source for the figures?

The benefits of being in the EU are massive. We can have millions of foreign workers who work hard for peanuts come here and lower our living standards and put us out of work.

They claim child benefit here for their children abroad and send it back to make their country richer.

I have often questioned this and having visited many EU nations I certainly feel that the UK is not really one with its EU counterparts.

Some say if we leave, the EU will stop trading with us, but that is utter rubbish as trade forces depict who you trade with and how much. Companies will not suddenly stop trading with the UK, they will trade with who ever is the most cost effective irrespective of which special club they are a member of.

You also have one or two foreign manufacturers who set up factories in the UK to gain access to the EU market for their products. I wonder how many of those companies would stay in the UK if the UK left the EU and their products were taxed as non-EU imports? For that matter, how many British firms would set up factories in Europe to avoid import tarriffs?

We shouldn't be. Not that we'll ever get a referendum on it ...

You've had one. Ted Heath gave you one (though he didn't tell the whole truth.) He did admit (on TV, after he retired) that his real intention was to take the UK into a United Europe.)

Yep, Generations before were hoodwinked and we were promised one and then told "No, You're all too stupid to understand so you can't have one!"
