esme
as long as it's registered as insured then you should be ok to drive it I wouldn't take that as gospel though ignore that I misread your post, as selphie says DVLA will be able to check online to see that you are insured and MOT'd and will issue a license in the post I always tax my bike online

Mr Bloke
Have you tried at the central post office? When I taxed my car the nice man said he didn't need to see my insurance or MOT (even though he did have a look anyway) as it would be flagged up on their system if the car was not insured or MOT'd! esme
im the new keeper of the vehicle the tax would go to the previous owner , ive tried that , i know traders can tax it with a traders policy i think if you've sent the V5 off then it should be registered to you after a day or so DVLA will know about that whether you've received the documents back or not
