mj.scuba
The size of the EU budget was not even on the formal agenda of last weeks talks in Brussels: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-11641023 EU leaders meeting in Brussels are grappling with how to protect Europe from a repeat of the recent Greek debt crisis but arguments over the size of the EU's budget - which are not on the formal agenda - have moved to the centre stage. How did the issue of the budget then take 'centre stage'? One of the EU leaders must have put their head above the parapet and made it part of the agenda, but also managed to garner support from other leaders for the budget increase to be restricted. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-11648446 Ten EU countries have rallied behind the UK's call to limit an increase in the 2011 EU budget to 2.9% - well below the rise that Euro MPs called for........ .......A freeze was what Mr Cameron was originally calling for, but other EU leaders refused to back the idea. But accepting this was impossible, Mr Cameron has thrown his weight behind a call to limit the rise to no more than 2.9%, which would cost the UK an extra £450m. It isn't quite what DC wanted. It's a lot less than MEPs wanted.
