Boulder outside 53 Bute Street, Crookes

Recommended Posts

Does anyone out there know the origin of a huge lump of rock that sits in the side entrance to No53 Bute Street, Crookes. My granparents lived at 51 and it has always been a mystery to me, what the rock was for originally. I've heard that it might either be left over from the horse and carriage days and was used to help passengers get into the carriage. But I've also heard that it is some sort of boundary marker and that there are others in the city too....any ideas?
