Mr Prime
I have sympathy for people struggling in these times but at the end of the day it's a free market society. Any business person is liable to be undercut and there are no rules or sentiment in business. Unless you want a full blooded socialist society then by default you want the status quo. Riche
No a level playing field is what we want. Again I know some fireman who under cut only because they don't pay tax. Do people not inderstand how this is detrimental to tradesmens jobs and conditions. Nothing I do affects the conditions of Firemen and their pay that is unless I am a arsonist. Glennis
It doesn't seem right when so many people are out of work ..its not much different from people owning second homes in rural areas and pricing locals out of the market ..legitimate, but not quite right. I don't think your gripe is with firemen as such, but illegal traders who undercut you. Firemen, just like anyone els, are entitled to take second jobs in their part time. So long as they are legal and above board I say good for them.
carosio
Actually you can, because it's tax evasion which is a criminal offence. In what way (in this instance) is a customer evading tax?

Franker
But I thought firemen needed all their rest days because of the nature of their work? Yeah, wouldn't you love it if a fireman turned up to save your wife from your house, which is on fire, but couldn't do his job properly because he'd been busy fitting somebodies kitchen. Wouldn't be right at all.
poppins
My husband was a fire fighter for over 30 years, i don't know one fire man that doesn't have a second job, most do work for each other ,that keeps them all busy just doing work for friends, how about people that do work for their familys on the side ? We had only firemen working on our house when we first bought it, knowing them all we could leave them in the house all day knowing nothing would fanish in turn my husband would work in their houses when they changed shifts. The union did a few years back did agree to stop the men going to lock-outs as it wasn't fair to the local locksmiths. Many Airline pilots have second jobs too, they have them to fall back on as their jobs rely on their frequent physical exams, also there's the ones on benefits that are working too. Mr Gobby
There are volunteer fire fighters, they work on a retain service, but im also sure that you don't declare all your earnings that's not a swipe at you. I don't think there are many trades people that do declare all thier earnings to the tax man .
