Trick or treat, what's the protocol?

Are you a home-owner, do you opt for 'trick' or 'treat'?

We usually go away this time of year and its the first time since we've been in this house to be home for halloween. We have no treats and sign on the door advising not to knock. Lights are off.

Also why are parents going out at NIGHT with their kids? Surely they should have gone during the daytime when it was safer?

Isn't the protocol to wire the doorbell up to the mains and retreat to the back room with a bottle of red? :hihi:

As long as it's not past their bed times, and they're accompanied by adults, all is surely well. Not much fun being unable to see your pumpkin glowing in the dark, is it?
